Characteristics
The rapid absorption of Sulfamethoxypyridazine results in high blood and tissue levels. Its elimination half-life is slow.
Trimethoprim is very quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Plasma protein binding varies slightly with species. But of all, the distribution is high and fast. Trimethoprim is eliminated mainly in unchanged.
Indications
In calves, lambs, foals, rabbits and poultry;
Treatment of gastrointestinal infections caused by trimethoprim and Sulfamethoxypyridazine-sensitive organisms.
Dosage and administration
Oral way.
5mg of trimethoprim and 23,24mg of Sulfamethoxypyridazine per KG/BW per day for 3 to 5 days, ie 50g per 250KG/BW

Adverse reactions
During prolonged treatment, an inhibition of thyroid hormone synthesis can be observed.
Sulfamethoxypyridazine is highly bound to plasma proteins and may alter the free fraction of other products that bind to these proteins, such as phenylbutazone, thiazide diuretics and salicylates for example.
Precautions
Special precautions for use in animals;

The use of the veterinary medicinal product is contraindicated in the following cases;
-Animals suffering from severe renal or hepatic insufficiency
-Dehydration
-Gestation
-New-borns
-Hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients or to any of the excipients (see leaflet)
-Sulfonamides cross the placental barrier and teratogenicity has been reported at very high doses in laboratory species.
-Use in pregnant females is contraindicated.
