Living comfortably with your cat

Living comfortably with your cat

Cats are majestic, mischievous, and mysterious creatures. Ancient Egyptians believed that cats bring good luck and fortune that is why they dressed them in jewels, fed them well, and mummified them. Cats are also good for your health, they lower stress and anxiety levels, improve cardiovascular health, help control blood pressure level, and they are therapy animals as they have a calming effect on people.

Cats, indeed, are fun pets; they are affectionate, cuddly, playful, and interesting to be around. But owning a cat is not without its pitfalls. How can you ensure that you enjoy a peaceful loving life with your feline pet?  You should start by knowing that cats have strong well and minds of their own, and each has her own personality. However, there are several general tips to ensure a comfortable life with your pet cat, regardless of her individualistic character. Here are several:

1- Know your place!

You are the caretaker and provider. So, as far as your cat is concerned, your sole job is to take care of her needs. Make sure you provide your cat with food and fresh water, clean the litter box regularly at appropriate intervals, play with her when demanded, and let her sleep the rest of the day away in peace.

2- Know your cat!

Cats are habitual creatures; they do not appreciate change, they like their lives the way it is. Same place, same furniture, same people, same everything, so do not get creative or decorative. Keep all aspects of your life the way they were the moment your cat became part of it, or bear the consequences.

3- Sacrifice your houseplants!

No houseplant is safe from your cat. You are going to catch your cat munching on houseplants at one point. Eating greens is a way for cats to help soothe upset stomachs, and they get intrigued by the strange smells. So make sure that the houseplants you have are cat-friendly.

4- Let them cram wherever!

Cats are notorious for cramming themselves into small spaces. What we consider uncomfortable space, a drawer, a crawlspace, a vase, is just the opposite for cats. Cats are attracted to small, enclosed spaces because they can feel safe in them. Squeezing into tiny and hard-to-reach spots helps them release endorphins, so, unless your cat starts meowing for help, just leave her stuffed into some nook or cranny, and be assured; she is exactly where she wants to be.

5- Yes, Your cat ignores you!

Accept it. Cats interact with us when they want to. Your cat recognizes its name as well as your voice, she just chooses to ignore the calls. Cats do not feel a particular need to engage in interactions that do not interest them, and they certainly feel no obligation to continuously show their affections. So if your cat is ignoring you, it means she does not feel like hanging out right now.

Finally, you ought to remember that in your cat’s mind, you and your cat are EQUAL. Your cat has the same claim you have on your home. When you are lying down lazily on the sofa or sitting comfortably in your favorite armchair, your cat never puts you down and sits in your place. Cats patiently wait till humans get up, out of their own free will, from the sofa or chair before they jump in and claim the spot for themselves, it is only fair that you do the same. Wait them out!

Cats are great pets, fairly quiet, clean, and generally low maintenance,  all you need for a comfortable and loving relationship with your cat is to acknowledge one fact: Cats rule.
