A question that still haunts many ... Do our cats need to bathe as for dogs? Or do they clean themselves?
The short answer is no .. cats in general do not need to shower .. They were created with special tongues in order to be able to clean themselves and reach all the layers of their outer body, from the fur to the skin .. However, as it is often the case, there are exceptions; so let’s discuss some of the situations where you may need to bathe your cat.
1- The density of the fur or the lack of it:
For cats with thick fur - such as Parisians - you need to shower the cat occasionally, to ensure that they are completely clean and do not accumulate any dirt. And hairless cats - such as Sphinx - also need to be bathed periodically to remove any excess of oil from their body.
2- in case of Injuries or illnesses:
Which may vary from a physical disability, old age, an injury in the tongue or a body injury; all of these conditions require special cleaning to avoid any contamination or infection.
3- To get rid of External pollutants:
Such as falling into the mud or in any contaminated liquid (chemical) that is difficult and dangerous for the cat to clean by itself, so in this case you need to bathe it yourself to ensure that it is completely clean from this contaminant.
4- To get rid of Insects:
If you notice any insects on your cat’s body, you should immediately bathe them, and it is better to buy a special treatment against cat insects .. You can also visit a specialized clinic to make sure that your cat is completely free of insects.
In general, in such cases, if you bathe your cat properly, this bath will be beneficial for your cat's skin and fur. Just remember that this does not mean your cat will enjoy the shower. Know that your feline friend has probably sharpened its claws and honed its fighting skills for such an occasion.
